Basically - more tests, more waiting.

So, we met with Baylee's Urologist today & found out a few things.... But are still left with questions.

The VCUG ruled out any sort of Bladder Reflux, which is actually not good - that would have been the best thing to be wrong with her, at this point (easiest fix!). Which means her Ureter & Kidney are either being affected by an obstruction, or it means this is just how she was anatomically designed (??).

I asked her Dr. which one is more likely & he said the swelling is most likely due to an obstruction  (i.e. her Ureter is too narrow), in that case he said he would preform surgery, basically... cutting off her ureter from her bladder, correcting it & then reattaching the ureter back to her bladder.

He wants us to continue her on the daily antibiotics, for at least the next 3 months (to prevent any sort of urinary tract, or kidney infection... that's the biggest concern right now). The Dr. wants us to take her to her Pediatrician ASAP for any minor fever at this point & we must stay diligent to keep her kidney healthy - because she's only got one!

Also, what we're learning is that having a Solitary kidney isn't uncommon or dangerous, having Hydronephrosis (swelling in the renal pelvis of the kidney - due to urine not fully draining) isn't necessarily uncommon - or overly serious, and having Hydroureternophrosis (swelling of the ureter) isn't overly uncommon... HOWEVER - Hydronephrosis & Hydroureternophrosis more often than not only affects one kidney & it's very rare for someone with a Solitary kidney to have both of these disorders (or even one of these disorders). So... because of this, the Dr. doesn't want to take any chances, or mess around. We'll be going back in three months to do a different, specialized test to determine if the ureter is being obstructed - it will be at that point (if we verify an obstruction) that surgery will be needed. We didn't ask too many questions about if it's just her anatomical design, so I don't know if she just naturally has swelling, what actions will need to be taken(?).

I feel like I know everything there is possibly to know about the kidneys, their function & the whole urinary tract anatomy. It's all very interesting though, we also learned that kidney issues are hereditary & we think we identified where in the family it comes from. It's so great to learn what's in your children's genes - I'm going to try to get as much medical information from all sides of the family, to pass on to our kids. It's good to be & to stay informed! :)

As for her sleeping routine - she's actually sleeping in big chunks! Waking 2-4 times a night & sleeping anywhere from 2.5 to 5.5 hour chunks in her crib!! Yay!! So, usually her longest stretch is the first part of the night, as we enter the morning, she sleeps in smaller chunks. But, still - she's sleeping, which means I am too! :)
